The first report of the Observatory on sustainability reports of Italian Universities, produced by the Gruppo Bilanci e Sostenibilità (GBS) and the ODCEC (National Council of Accountants). This document represents an important step forward in the understanding and promotion of sustainability within the Italian academic context.
The report is divided into two main sections:
- Theoretical framework: it examines the process of communicating sustainability in universities, with a focus on sustainability reports, strategic plans and sustainability plans, considered central tools for achieving sustainability objectives and institutional development;
- Dissemination assessment: it analyses the current state of sustainability reporting in Italian universities, with particular attention to published reports and their contribution to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
Main objectives of the report:
- Provide a detailed overview of the diffusion of sustainability reports in Italian universities.
Analyze trends in the adoption of reporting standards and guidelines. - Assess the contribution of Italian universities to sustainable development through examples of concrete actions.
This report marks the beginning of a structured monitoring process that, starting from 2025, will follow the evolution of sustainability practices in Italian universities, constituting a valuable tool for academics, professionals and decision makers.
